Jo Steward age 68 of St. Louis, Michigan passed away Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis, Michigan. She was a devoted associate at JC Penney in Alma for 30 years, retiring October 31, 1996.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at 2:30 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, Chapel. Pastor Lillian French will officiate with burial at Sunfield Cemetery in Sunfield, Michigan. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Jo was born on May 6, 1935 in Sunfield, Michigan the daughter of Leonard & Irma (Ward) Joppie. She gradated from Vermontville High School with the Class of 1953. On June 12, 1954 she married Doug Steward in Vermontville, Michigan. She loved horses and all of her animals. Jo was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. She resided in St. Louis for the past 37 years.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Steward of St. Louis, MI, four children, Cheryl & Gary Havenstein of Maryland, Ron & Deb Steward of Alma, MI, Michele & Rich Patterson of Mason, MI, Jon & Erin Steward of Ithaca, MI, seven grandchildren, Melissa Jo Steward, Kenzie Marie Steward, Ashley M. Patterson, Holly Marie Havenstein, Jeff Steward Havenstein, Robby Steward Havenstein, Thomas Jon Steward, three sisters, Leona & Bob McNally of Marshall, MI, Louise & Charles Viele of Vermontville, MI, Barb & Larry Musser of Vermontville, MI, and one brother, Bud & Tina Joppie of Nashville, MI. She is also remembered by her good friends Jackie Croton & Sue Daly. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Neil Joppie.
Memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association for research. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
